Described as a "Wonderland for the Jet Set", the Clift Hotel is the result of yet another collaboration between hotelier Ian Schrager and designer Philippe Starck. This fusion of old-world elegance and modern glamour is located two blocks from Union Square and a half-mile from the Asian Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. After a $50 million renovation this 1915 Italian Renaissance-style hotel has been reinvented into a glamorous, cutting-edge hotel. Complete with surrealist art and bold patterns and textures, the décor is a striking blend of classical and ultra contemporary elements. The Clift Hotel is also home to the Redwood Room, a San Francisco landmark bar since 1933, with wood-paneled walls made of old giant redwood trees. It has been cleverly updated with a series of flat-screen televisions presenting a changing display of avant-garde digital art. The onsite restaurant, Asia de Cuba features creative Latin and Asian fusion cuisine.
