The Phoenix Hotel is a local landmark that has the reputation of being San Francisco's renowned "rock 'n roll hotel". Funky, irreverent, and young-at-heart, the Phoenix Hotel isn't for everyone. Located at the edge of the Tenderloin neighborhood, the Phoenix Hotel is within walking distance of the city's hottest nightclubs and a half-mile from the Civic Center's cultural venues. Conde Naste Traveler described the Phoenix as "a Fifties caravan lodge that has risen into a colorful urban oasis" In fact, this unique hotel is a 50's-era, former motor lodge with its own hip nightspot, Bambuddha Lounge. Besides being a popular nightspot, Bambuddha also serves Southeast Asian cuisine. Popular with celebrities, the hotel's central courtyard is a good place to check out visiting artists and entertainers, and it can become rather boisterous. The courtyard also features a small, heated outdoor swimming pool - an oddity in San Francisco.
The 50s retro-styled guestrooms are spacious and feature tropical bungalow stylings and imported island furnishings. Each of the 44 guestrooms, face the pool and courtyard sculpture garden. They are equipped with cable TV, a phone with voicemail, and data ports. A complimentary continental breakfast is served each morning, and guests can be served at the poolside.
